Managing Patient Information
Managing patient informationThe Practice and others who are caring for you, keep general information about you e.g. your name, address, date of birth, NHS number and ethnicity. They also keep information regarding your health care, treatment and support needs.
The Practice was accredited as ‘Paperlight’ in October 2009, and is maintaining the computer record as the main patient record in accordance with NHS guidelines.
Your records are kept in a safe place in the surgery, both as an electronic record on the Practice’s computer system and a paper record. The Practice must adhere to legal requirements and NHS guidelines which set clear standards of practice regarding keeping records. These include:
- Data Protection Act 1998
- Good Practice Guidelines For General Practice Electronic Patient Records (Opens a pdf file)
The Practice has also developed Policies and Procedures, in line with legal and NHS requirements, which govern how the Practice handles the information it holds about you.
